Mission Report. 21st day of the fourth moon of this year.
Present in the mission:
Garrenson (put in command by Lord Bayerleyn)
Oakenfield (Put in 2nd command by Lord Bayerleyn)
Reaper Williams
Von Kova
Plainfield
Hill
Hightower (new lass)
Sungrace
Geryne
Description of mission:
The party as assembled by the Lord ventured forth into the tower. There the first problem arose, the man in command, Garrenson, was completely unaware of previous happenings and needed brought back up to speed. This took a while, with greencoats filling parts and gaps of the story.
The party proceeded towards the theatre, meeting no resistance whatsoever other than some eerie whispers and sounds, almost familiar by now. When the group entered the theatre behind the works, a play by spectral performers started. I won’t claim to know what was going on, but Garrenson ordered us forward, and forward we went. A door at the other side of the play opened smoothly, and revealed two actors. They were surprised and confused the party by acting out their… act. Most of the party moved on, but the Reaper stayed behind, causing the entire group to trail slowly and fracturing apart as it moved across two galleries, working its way up. Plainfield, Kova, Williams, and Hill all lagged behind and failed to keep up. I was forced to double back and snap Kova back to attention, she was watching the play of all things, and then the other finally caught up.
Our movement onward was halted by two stone lions coming to life. Garrenson was startled, and called for the plate wearers to engage. Geryne, Sungrace and I complied, while the rest of the party stood idly by or saw fit to give spiteful comments. The Lions were startled and returned to their pedestals, forming back into stone. A nearby painting however, spawned what appeared to be a spectral ghost huntsman, a quite arrogant one at that. He demanded apologies for attacking his lions, which I promptly gave. He demanded more, though, asking Garrenson to kneel. Thankfully, he did. We pried for some more information, but the ghost departed after demanding some meat for his pets, which Plainfield supplied.
As the party pressed on, we were halted in a hall by a barrier similar to what the guardians of the dancing hall used. A voice, seemingly coming from nowhere, demanded a choice. “Warrior, or mage?” After some squabbling and spiteful remarks from the women in the company, Garrenson choose the warrior. This caused one of the painting to come alive, bringing forth a spectral warrior that looked all too solid. Sungrace attempted conversation, which resulted in the ghost taunting von Kova as she meddled with the conversation. Von Kova then fired, without orders to do so. The bullet was deflected, bouncing around the room and off the walls.
At this, I ordered the attack. All the plate wearers bar Williams joined the fray, but the warrior.. he had martial prowess the like I have never seen before. He managed to trash Garrenson, Geryne and myself, ruining our armor before Hill and Hightower joined the fray, overcoming him with our numbers. It has to be pointed out that the Reaper apparently refused to join combat. What’s worse, kova fired another bullet into the fray, risking not only hurting fellow greencoats, but also ignoring orders yet again. This round was deflecting as well, sending bouncing around the room like the other.
As the combat was over, the barrier was lifted, which I found out after running over to the passage. The bullets, however, were flying around at the same speed still. One of them hit hightower in the shoulder before we managed to clear the room. Coming from Kova’s rifle, this effectively was friendly fire.
As the group pulled out of the room, advancing into a more ruined part of the tower, we had the first good turn of events for the night. The side entrance was discovered, and the wooden beam blocking it was removed. We now have more direct access to the tower, from our campment itself. Hightower was carried out by Hill to be tended to. He swiftly rejoined the party, catching up as it advanced.
We came across two more ghosts. One, a maiden crying and not noticing us, another, a man at a fire offering warmth and food, and warning us of the Icy lady. I spoke some more with him, inquiring of the dangers ahead. He confirmed we were on our way to the library, and warned me again of the lady, stating that none have melted her, though many tried. At this, Garrenson ordered the group to move forward. I must note here that Williams yet again stayed behind with the crying maiden, without consulting me or Garrenson. Hill stayed with her.
The party pressed on, venturing up a level. The tower is mostly in ruins at this point, so we treaded carefully. Sungrace stepped onto a carpet which seemed to come alive.. and.. flying. It took him away. We called for him to jump down, but either he was unable to do so or choose not to. We assume he currently is trapped in the upper reaches of the tower. Official status: missing in action.
As the party ventured forward, the Icy lady appeared, barring our path. Garrenson and I debated what to do after she made an offer; she would take all the men, and the women could pass. These unacceptable terms were obviously refused, and we debated our options. Hail started to batter us, however, sending most of us scrambling for cover. The Reaper rejoined us at this point.
Hill, however, had seen fit to climb behind the maiden, and attack her. This was uncalled for, and forced our hand. The maiden rebuked him, sending him flying and knocking him out as he tried to escape. Garrenson attacked the Lady, but it was soon clear this was a being we could not face. Garrenson soon was downed himself, impaled by shards of ice. This left the command to me.
It was clear the situation was a loss. I managed to retrieve hill, dragging him down from the banister where he hung, unconscious. I sounded the retreat, ordering Geryn and Kova to drag the downed Garrenson off field, while doing the same to Hill myself. The Reaper covered our retreat by talking to the Lady, who seemed to recognize her as.. someone worthy of not impaling with ice, at least. In this final conversation she discovered Sungrace is held by ‘the Jester’, or so she told me in a later conversation.
Plainfield kept Hill and Garrenson alive as we retreated back to camp. Sungrace is still MIA. I came down to get you as soon as the injured were secured. What interaction the Reaper had with the lady is unknown to me.
You are aware of the rest of the happenings, sir. I will continue to summarize my thoughts on each individual member, and then conclude this report.
Individual comments:
Sungrace: No comments. Behaved properly, followed orders and showed initiative when it was not out of place, communicating with Garrenson and myself. I regret his current status.
Garrenson: With all due respect, a poor choice for command considering he was not aware of previous happenings. Other than that he showed good initiative, making calls and giving orders. He was perhaps a tad too aggressive, choosing to engage when diplomacy might have fared better, but that is a minor comment.
Geryne: No comments. Followed orders well.
Von kova: Extremely disappointed. Besides losing focus and falling behind to something as trivial as a show, she failed to follow orders on numerous occasions, not only opening fire and thus forcing a fight on us, but also firing with direct risk of hitting fellow greencoats. Indirectly, a fellow greencoat –was- hit, resulting in an injured Hightower. Highly recommend disciplinary action.
Plainfield: No comment other than that she has often made witty remarks and openly questioning either Garrenson’s or my own decisions. It is easy to second-guess when you are not making the calls and responsible for others.
Hightower: No comment on the person itself, but more the situation surrounding her; what in Light’s name was she doing with the group? She cannot fight, and was more of a liability than an asset. She needs training before being set on missions. She is lucky to have been injured, I do not think she would have survived meeting the Icy lady.
Reaper Williams: Williams has been a liability this mission. She has not joined combat on a single occasion the entire evening, and like Plainfield often openly questioned given commands. She also lagged behind on her own account on multiple occasions, tearing the group apart in doing so. She did buy us the time necessary to retreat, for which she is to be commended. Nonetheless, I highly recommend disciplinary action. The reaper seems to refuse to follow those who you put in command over her. This would need be remedied, or the Reaper should simply not join groups that are not commanded by her or yourself, to avoid such situations in the future.
Hill: Good member of the team. He did however engage the lady without orders to do so, nearly resulting in the loss of his own life, and that of Garrenson’s. He seems a bit of a loose cannon, and I recommend disciplinary action in ordered to prevent repetition in the future.
Oakenfield: I will not write marks about my own person, for an evaluation I suggest asking Garrenson once he is revived from his injuries.
General thoughts:
In general, I am quite appaled at the state of discipline and order within the greencoats. Whenever you are not present, sir, the group seems to devolve into making witty remarks or even outright open hostility towards each other. Members disregard given orders, wander about on their own accord, and generally form a danger to the rest of the party. Most seemed to have little to no respect for the individuals put in charge by you. Perhaps the entire Retinue needs a good talking to, sir. This state has already claimed lives, if I hear the others tell it, and will claim more if it is not remedied.
Summary of events:
